Yurrul (seed) – hand painted coolamon

Artwork Story: This artwork is a beginning of a series focused on looking at Country through a cultural lens. After a recent trip back to Country, learning more about the landscape and my Ancestors, I had somewhat of an awakening and visibleness of being there with my Ancestors. I saw, thought and felt things I had not seen, thought or felt before, and had an overwhelming sense of the cultural obligation I have to protect, give life to and honour Country, and to paint the feeling. It was a moment of deep learning and reflection, but also a moment where I felt the urge to create intuitively which is rare for a perfectionist. This series I hope to awaken more connection and understanding in looking at and learning about Country first and foremost through the eyes of First Nations people.
